A sponsored Industrial IoT Cloud product development program


Cloud computing based solutions are tremendously emerging in the global market, including Internet of Things (IoTs). There are several business possibilities where the young technical aspirants, willing to do startups, could opt for. For instances, the development of cloud services for smart city automation, cloud services for water quality system, services for Electric Vehicles, cloud services for the uplift of societal health, cloud services for neuro science, and so forth. Undoubtedly, these cloud services, which could be implemented at different levels of computing systes such as Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS), if implemented, would reap economical-cum-societal benefits. IoT-CSP-IIITKottayam, a shortlisted incubation centre of IIIT Kottayam, has taken strides to move forward with the development of such products along with the entrepreneurial aspirants.

About the program - A short report

Call for the entrepreneur aspirants, who were willing to work on IoT Cloud solutions, were invited!! 21 incubates were shortlisted for the sponsored industrial IoT Cloud product development program under DST-NIMAT scheme in December/January 2018 (6 weeks).

Computing knowledge in HLL such as C/C++/Java and Webservices.

Program Overview

Week 1 : Introduction -- Cloud and Sensor technologies

Week 2 : Product development - Demo

Week 3 : Implementation - Phase I

Week 4 : Implementation - Phase II

Week 5and6 : Product Development -- Patenting and Documentation

Program Milestones

The salient features of the 6 weeks program are as follows
i) The program schedule was designed such that the entrepreneurial aspirants (participants) were motivated to develop IoT Cloud products. Several prizes and competitions were held to ensure that they succeed in their product developments and in their near-future entrepreneurial journey.
ii) Only screened-in participants were allowed to participate in the event.
iii) There was an interaction by a local minister (RajyaSabha) during the event.
iv) A visit was organized from five nearby schools (26 school students) at the program venue to exhibit the developed products by the DST-NIMAT participants.
v) One patent was filed by a DST-NIMAT participant during the period of the stay.
v) Mr. Shubham Kumar of DST-NIMAT program won Rs.50000/- for HackICAV'18 - A Rolta sponsored hackathon event.
